The Philadelphia 76ers over the years have become quite accustomed to dealing with bad new over the years. Much of this has been in the form of the injury bug. In light of that, ESPN has reported that forward Nerlens Noel is set to undergo minor knee surgery.
The Philadelphia 76ers said forward Nerlens Noel will need surgery on his left knee. It is the latest in a long line of injuries for a team that is trying to turn things around.
The Sixers announced Friday that Noel elected to have surgery after consulting with several specialists.
Although this shouldn’t keep him out for too long, it falls well within the trend of injuries derailing the future of the franchise. Noel was coming off a productive first full season averaging 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. He had quickly proven to be one of the best defensive big men in the league.
That said, this could be a blessing in disguise as it allows for Joel Embiid to man the middle without any true test on the roster. 76ers are extremely high on Embiid’s ability and this could further extenuate that. It may be a step back, but it could open up the door to great opportunities for Embiid to grow into his untapped potential.
