Last week, Alberto Del Rio was involved in a stabbing incident that landed him in the hospital after several cuts to his body from an attacker. Up until this point, there wasn’t much said from Del Rio’s side of things. In light of that, the 39-year-old has finally released a statement regarding the situation.
Mr. Rodriguez (“Alberto El Patron”) shortly after eating a meal before his flight was assaulted by a criminal with a knife outside the restaurant. Mr. Rodriguez suffered multiple lacerations on his arm and other parts of his body defending against the criminal as Police were called by witnesses. Mr. Rodriguez received medical attention and went back to the Police Department and was unable to make his flight. Mr. Rodriguez has spoken with the ownership of Lucha Libre AAA World Wide and given them documentation of the incident. Mr. Rodriguez greatly regrets not being there yesterday for his fans in Mexico and promises to everyone he will make this up as soon as possible. Despite the graphic lacerations Mr. Rodriguez will not miss any of his shows for the remainder of the year and is ready to compete this weekend in the UK.
There was initially much fuss made about Del Rio missing his commitment to Lucha Libre AAA World Wide, but it appears he had a valid reason why. This could have been a much worse turn of events for him had he not been able to defend himself. Del Rio could have suffered a fatal wound that would have ended his life.
That said, it’s great news to hear that he won’t miss any of his other upcoming commitments in the independent circuit. He has a busy schedule ahead of him competing with What Culture Professional Wrestling along with Lucha Libre AAA World Wide. Expect Del Rio to quickly put this entire thing behind him.
