With the 2016-17 season underway, there were many stellar individual performances across the league on Wednesday night. New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis was more than ready to get it started as he dropped 50 points in a loss to the Denver Nuggets in the season opener. According to the Pelican’s public relations department, it was a performance that saw him make NBA history.
AD’s final stat line (50 pts, 16 rbs, 5 asts, 7 stls, 4 blks) is the first of its kind in @NBA history

Davis put on fully display why he is regarded as one of the best players in the league. He has proven to be a tremendous force on both ends of the floor, but the only knock against him has been his healthy missing double-digit contests in each of his first four seasons. When healthy, he has a strong case as being the one of the top five players in the game.
Although it was a jaw-dropping outing from Davis, it just goes to show how much help that the Pelicans still need. There are going to be nights where he puts together a phenomenal game and New Orleans will still fall short because of the lack of help. That said if Davis can stay healthy he could have a clear shot at winning the NBA MVP award this season.
