In the last few months, there has been much made about Greg Monroe’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks. Monroe was a constant target in trade rumors around the league throughout the offseason. According to RealGM, the Bucks are preparing for the veteran big man to opt into his deal next season.
The Milwaukee Bucks are preparing for the possibility of Greg Monroe opting into his contract for the 17-18 season.
What fuels this belief was the lack of significant interest from other teams. Monroe had been linked to the New Orleans Pelicans and Charlotte Hornets, but nothing truly came about. However, teams were unwilling to take on his $17.8 million annual salary.
Monroe is a talented player but his struggles to truly fit in with the Bucks has hurt his stock tremendously. If he were to opt out of his deal, it’s safe to assume that no team in the league would give him a multi-year deal with that type of yearly salary. What this mean more than anything else is that Milwaukee will be stuck with his contract for the next two seasons.
