Since the shocking finish to Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match, there has been much chatter about the finish. It has created much negative feedback from the WWE Universe. However, Chris Jericho in his latest episode of his “Talk Is Jericho” podcast stated that he loved the finish to the match.
“I loved the Goldberg finish. I think it was very smart. Had they gone out there for about a 10-minute match, and kind of been a little bit plodding, or maybe somebody blows up or whatever it may be, I don’t think it would have been as effective. It was a shock-value, water cooler moment. Everybody’s talking about it; it sets up for a huge main event rematch; and we have something to talk about, so I think it was a great idea. Everyone was shocked; everyone was surprised, but after thinking about it for a minute, I think it was actually a pretty brilliant finish. So congratulations to those guys. Congratulations to Goldberg for coming back and making his mark right away.”
The finish to the match did what the WWE had hoped in causing a stir with many still up in arms about what went down. Goldberg absolutely dominated Lesnar in quick fashion that made him look like a force of nature. The WWE took a risk and it has so far worked out with the ratings jumping through the roof with Goldberg now back in the fold.
His return has helped bring back some much-needed buzz to the company and driven plenty of anticipation to what he’s going to do next at the Royal Rumble. It also leaves some mystery as to what Lesnar has planned next following that disappointing loss. All in all, it was a great move that has done exactly what the WWE has hoped.
