In the last couple of years, there has been much made about dysfunction around the Sacramento Kings. The Majority of this has been rooted with the franchise’s standing with star center DeMarcus Cousins. According to CSN Northeast’s Jackie MacMullan, there is a strong belief that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive doesn’t want to trade Cousins.
“Vivek Ranadive does not want to trade DeMarcus Cousins,” MacMullan said. “As long as that’s the case, all this talk is just that. It’s talk.”
The fact that Vivek wants to hold on to Cousins shouldn’t be shocking by any means. The 26-year-old is arguably the best big man in the league about to enter the prime of his career. It’s extremely hard for anybody to want to move on from that talent level let alone the owner of the team.
However, the Kings have yet to experience any true level of success with him as the centerpiece of the puzzle. There’s no doubting the tremendous talent that he possesses, but the Kings will have to get as much as they can for him before he ultimately walks away in free agency. Vivek has to face the reality that Cousins will be on his way out at some point, and trading him may be the only option to lessen the blow.
