The Cowboys have been off to a tremendous start to the season after a disappointing year last year. Rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot have led the charge and propelled the team to 4 straight wins, despite missing star receiver Dez Bryant for the last two.

Skip Bayless addressed the success of the team without Dez Bryant on his show recently, and implied that Bryant should take the Cowboys success without him as an ego check. Here’s the full quote:

“I hope Dez Bryant is getting the message that the Cowboy world no longer revolves just around him. I’m hoping the Dez cloud is starting to lift off the Dallas Cowboys because these are the new Dallas Cowboys. I’m not saying that they’re gonna be better off without Dez Bryant, I’m saying they’ll be better off without the old Dez Bryant.”

Cowboys fans quickly came to Bryant’s defense, calling him a team player. Dez took notice, and fired back hard at Bayless.

Bayless foolishly took the bait and responded to Dez, telling him he’d been a Cowboys fan for 40 years.

Dez completely shut down Bayless in the best way possible: by using his own words against him.

Maybe Bayless really is a Cowboys fan. But when you make a career out of stirring the pot and saying controversial and contradictory things to grab attention, it’s bound to come back to bite you eventually. Dez made Bayless look like a fool, and he didn’t even have to say a word.
