A new season means a new slew of revamped teams gunning for a spot in the playoffs and respect from the rest of the league. The newly retooled Pacers and Celtics have gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason.
But according to former NBA journeyman Eddie Johnson, there’s one team in the East that has what it takes to challenge the Cavs that isn’t getting the respect they deserve. That team is the Detroit Pistons.
Johnson thinks the team has what it takes to put together a 50 win season. He thinks the lights out defense of Marcus Morris, the insane athleticism of Andre Drummond and the smooth offensive skills of Tobias Harris are a fearsome front court trio that could create headaches for opponents in the playoffs. Add in the return of Reggie Jackson and the experienced leadership of Stan Van Gundy and Johnson says you’ve got a recipe for success.
They certainly have the pieces in place, though their 8-10 record leaves some doubts as to whether they can put them all together. Jackson’s return next week could provide a major boost.
