This week, the Los Angeles Rams take on the New England Patriots. While most coaches would be hard at work studying their opponent’s game film, coach Jeff Fisher doesn’t seem to have paid much attention at all.
That was made clear when he spoke about the Patriots run game and specifically praised Danny Woodhead. Via NESN:
“I’ve been impressed with Brandon and what he’s done out of the backfield. You’ve got to deal with him, in addition to Danny. You’ve got playmakers all around, so we have to play sound defense.”
Woodhead is certainly a play maker, and he had a great career with the Patriots. But Woodhead isn’t on the Patriots anymore, he’s on the team closest to the Rams, the San Diego Chargers. Furthermore, he hasn’t even played all season because he’s been on the injury reserved list.
There are a lot of players on a lot of teams on the NFL, so you can’t expect the head coach to keep up with everyone. But praising a player on your opponent’s team who doesn’t even play for that team anymore definitely calls into question the preparation Fisher is doing. Unfortunately for Rams fans, it looks like they’ll be in for another year of this stuff.
