The Philadelphia 76ers are off to yet another slow start out of the gate to the season. They are among the bottom tier teams in the Eastern Conference well out of the playoff picture. Despite that, Joel Embiid recently told Philly.com that he believes the 76ers can still make the playoffs this year.
“We are seven or eight games out of the playoffs, so we have a chance,” the rookie center said in the visitors’ locker room at the Barclays Center. “We are learning. We are coming together. We are learning how to play with each other.
“We are just great now.
Philadelphia is currently 7.5 games behind the Washington Wizards for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. They have also dropped six out of their last 10 games. Much of this clearly points to the 76ers suffering the same fate of missing the playoffs once again for the fourth straight season.
However, the Eastern Conference has routinely had a team in the playoffs with at or below a .500 record for the seventh or eighth spot. This could be enough for the 76ers to sneak their way into postseason play. That said, it would require a major turnaround that the organization hasn’t seen in years. With Embiid confident that his team can do it, there won’t be any lack of effort on his end to pushing them into the mix.
