The long wait is finally over for the Philadelphia 76ers as promising big man Joel Embiid has made his debut on the court. He has many within the organization extremely excited for what could lie ahead. In an interview with CSN Philly’s Jessica Camerato, 76ers head coach Brett Brown offered huge praise to Embiid.
“You see [Embiid] and he just has ‘it. Years ago, you saw it with [Tim] Duncan. I see it with him in regards to a real target offensively and a real sort of centerpiece defensively.”
These are extremely big expectations for him to fulfill as Tim Duncan will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to play the game. Duncan was a complete player that was an elite factor on both ends of the floor with the accolades to back it as a two-time regular season MVP, three-time Finals MVP, 13-time All-NBA Team member, and 15-time All-Defensive team member. If Brown sees that in Embiid it certainly says a lot about how much hope the franchise has in him.
The 22-year-old has shown much promise as times during the first couple of games of the preseason. That said, the 76ers are trying to be cautious with him playing him in a limited role. The organization has clearly put all the eggs in the basket with Embiid.
