In the last few months, John Cena has been on a hiatus from the WWE due to his commitment away from the ring. However, he is set to return to the ring later next month. According to Variety, Cena may have to take another long hiatus after being picked to star in another movie.
Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, and John Cena are set to star in Kay Cannon’s directorial debut, “The Pact.”
Eben Russell, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and brothers Brian and Jim Kehoe penned the script for Point Grey, Good Universe, Hurwitz & Schlossberg Productions, and DMG.
The film follows three parents who, upon discovering that their daughters have made a pact to lose their virginities on prom night, go out and try and stop them before it’s too late.
Cena over the last several years has become more involved in the movie industry. This next big screen opportunity could keep him away at some point next year when filming begins. If so, his appearances on Smackdown Live could once again be limited.
In his absence, the New Era of superstars such as AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose have taken center stage on Smackdown Live. That said, Cena has continued to voice his commitment to wrestling long term with the WWE. It will be interesting to see how much this impacts his role in the coming months.
