In the first few months since Kevin Durant’s decision to bolt the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors in free agency, the talk has centered around his relationship with Russell Westbrook. It is clear that two are no longer in great standing. According to the Toronto Star, that relationship may take another hit when Toronto Raptors assistant coach Rex Kalamian revealed that Durant had texted back in August that he was jealous of the relationship that Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan have.
Your two guys are the best. I’m jealous of their relationship, the way they get along with each other and the way they play together. The way they enjoy each other, it’s great,” Durant texted Kalamian, who then told Chris O’Leary of the Toronto Star.
“I think it’s kind of what he wants,” Kalamian said of Durant. “He wants that bond with someone… and I think he’s going to find that (in Golden State). Early on in OKC, we had that.”
Although Durant wasn’t intentionally looking to trash his former teammate, it just adds to comments taken at Westbrook. It has become evident that the two did not have as strong of a relationship that many have initially thought. With each passing week, it doesn’t look like things are letting up from Durant’s side of things.
It’s just a situation that has gotten way out of hand at this point. There is just no need for this additional comments about his decision. With the NBA season about to get underway, hopefully, things can shift back to the basketball court.
