In the last few months since Kevin Durant’s decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for Golden State Warriors, there has been a lot of scrutiny on the relationship or the lack of that he has with Russell Westbrook. Although Westbrook has been tight-lipped about it all, Durant certainly isn’t. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the former league MVP revealed another intriguing detail.
“They just liked each other so much and were so relaxed,” he said. “I thought, ‘These are some chill-ass dudes I wouldn’t mind hooping with.’ I wasn’t even asking, ‘How do we play together?’ I was asking, ‘Where do y’all go eat, do y’all hang out together?’”
What this shows that these two weren’t as close as many thought. The fact that they are hanging around different circles on the team shows there is a difference between them. However, it does not mean there was any disdain between them.
The lack of a true connection between himself and Westbrook may have played a factor in his decision to sign with Golden State. When he saw how close-knit that the Warriors were off the court it likely influenced him greatly. It just came to be another reason why he chose to start this next chapter of his career elsewhere.
