Since his arrival to the main roster last year, Kevin Owens has truly sunken in as a heel on the WWE. This has only been taken up a notch following his victory earning the WWE Universal title. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Owens also used this opportunity to take a shot at the competitive brand’s biggest belt.
“I feel the WWE Universal Title is more important that the WWE World Title on Smackdown. Just look at the caliber of the guys vying for the belt and the way it was introduced with Finn Balor, Rusev, Cesaro, myself, Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn and Sheamus in contention.”
Although Owens is doing nothing but creating more tension between the two brands ahead of Survivor Series, Smackdown Live some talented competitors for the WWE championship. First and foremost, AJ Styles is arguably the best performer in the business right now while Dean Ambrose, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, and Randy Orton are no slouches in their own right. The talent level may be tilted a bit in Raw’s favor, but the top-level superstars are nearly the same.
Owens has seen himself take off as the Universal champion with his being a heel. He has shown great creativity in the ring on the microphone and has put on great matches in the process. It will be interesting to see what the WWE plans on doing for his future as the champion moving forward.
