The Sacramento Kings over the last decade have been one of the most dysfunctional teams in the league. This was clearly evident last year with then-head coach George Karl butting heads with two-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins. In a recent interview with USA TODAY Sports, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive revealed that Karl attempted to trade Cousins.
You know, look, George had tried to trade Cousins that whole summer, and there was not a lot of love between those two, and so there was tension there. So that was not a new thing.”
This news shows that things were much worse than originally led on between the two. It’s now even clearer that they were not seeing eye to eye and it was a toxic situation. All of this gave Ranadive more reason to part ways with Karl after less than two seasons.
Sacramento is hoping turn things around with new head coach Dave Joerger. He has already gotten off on the right page with Cousins, who has spoken highly of the new offensive schemes in place. That said, it will be interesting to see how things pan out for the Kings under Joerger’s helm.
