The Kings have had a rocky start to the season, currently sitting on a 4-7 record. Implementing Dave Joerger’s new system is taking longer than many had hoped, and the team is unable to finish out close games. Like any team with lots of talent that isn’t meshing well, they’ve become the subject of many trade rumors.
One of the biggest rumors involves big man Willie Cauley-Stein. An off the bench player, Cauley-Stein allegedly wants a move to a team that will give him more playing time. Via ESPN’s Marc Stein:
“Keep an eye on Kings big man Willie Cauley-Stein. Word is Sacramento is open to moving the second-year big man, who wants more of a role than he has under new Kings coach Dave Joerger.”
The Kings however have decided against trading Cauley-Stein, saying that they see him as an important part of their future and a valuable source of energy off the bench. Cauley-Stein himself also refuted the rumors.
“I’m tired of not playing, so just going blood when you go in, just going as hard as you can for as long as you can.”
“Just trying to figure out where you fit in with our team, we’ve got a lot of vets and I’m still young, so it’s different. You’ve got to try and gain everyone’s trust again with new coaches and new players.”
With rumors that Boogie might depart from the team soon, it makes sense that the Kings would want to keep big men like Willie on the roster.
