The Knicks showed down against their cross town rivals, the Brooklyn Nets, on Saturday night. The Knicks impressed, routing the Nets 116-98. Among many great performances was Brandon Jennings, who looked very impressive in his 14 minutes of playtime.
He didn’t put up a huge stat line, but his pace and his agility provided a much needed boost in gas to the Knicks team. The Knicks outscored the Nets by 12 while Jennings was on the court.
“I feel great. I feel faster. I hope I look faster,” Jennings told ESPN’s Ian Begley after the game. “I just feel like myself again.”
Jennings will have a big role as a key bench player this season. If the Derrick Rose case turns out to be serious, that could easily turn into a starting role for Jennings. He says he’s ready, and teammate Carmelo Anthony agrees:
“He’s been playing like that since he was in high school,” Carmelo Anthony said of Jennings, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Knicks this summer. “Nothing has changed. You can tell he’s feeling good about himself. He’s feeling healthy. He’s got that joy about being back out there on the court.”
Jennings was 210 pounds last season, but has slimmed down to 175 this season, giving his game much more pace and making him a much more elusive and difficult to defend player.
