Martellus Bennett is a player who is known just as much for his off the field statements as he is for his on the field performance. He and his brother have proved controversial time and time again, never holding back on calling out people around the league and speaking their mind bluntly. In a recent interview, the two trashed everyone from the NFL league office to Martellus’ former teammates, the Chicago Bears. But one team Martellus had nothing but praise for was his new home, the Patriots. Via his own Twitter:
Playing for the Patriots has been a dream come true. Proud to wear the Red. Silver. And Blue looks great with my skin complexion btw…
Bennett has been playing well for the Patriots, providing some much needed skill while Gronk and Tom Brady were both out with injuries and suspensions. Bennett himself suffered an ankle injury early in the season, but iut hasn’t slowed him down at all. Via WEEI.com:
You lay down for a second and feel sorry for yourself, but then you remember all of the people who are counting on you and you just kind of find a way to suck it up and go out there and play for those guys,” Bennett said. “I didn’t want to let my teammates down. A lot of stuff we worked on in practice so I had to figure out a way to get back out there and play with my teammates.”
He also explained how putting in extra hours with Tom Brady has improved his skill and timing with the team.
“Communication is huge. Just knowing what he expects, what he wants, and try to do that correctly,” Bennett said. “That’s what it’s really about. There is a lot of stuff that Tom communicated earlier in the summer during practice and one of them came up on the second touchdown.”
