Pat Riley Has Made A Shocking Revelation About Dwyane Wade

In the last few months, there has been much made about Dwyane Wade’s decision to bolt the Miami Heat for the Chicago Bulls in free agency. There seems to be a new wrinkle to the situation added each week. According to TNT’s David Aldridge, Heat president Pat Riley indulged him with an interesting note.

Riley told me before the game that, if he had to do it over again, in the summer of 2014, after LeBron James left and went back to Cleveland, we should have given Wade a max deal as well as Chris Bosh, as the team did. ‘That was wrong. I should have, we should have given him that. That’s a big second-guess, but that’s on me.

It’s something with 20/20 hindsight that has come to haunt the Heat in the immediate future. Without Wade, the team has been forced to rely primarily on Hassan Whiteside to be the primary focus of the team. Whiteside is a rising talent in the league, but his offensive skills are not polished enough yet.
Wade would have been a great crutch for the Heat to lean on as the face of the franchise. A max contract offer would have been much deserving given what he has done for the organization and the level of production he is still able to bring to the table. Ultimately, it’s something that Riley could regret for a long time.
