The Raptors’ hope of being able to return to the playoffs for the fourth year in a row just suffered a serious setback with news that newly signed Jared Sullinger will require surgery on his injured foot. Sullinger hurt his foot after it was stepped on during the Raptors’ preseason game against the warriors. He hasn’t practiced or played in games since the injury.
Raptor’s Team President Masai Ujiri revealed that Sullinger will be undergoing surgery on his injured foot on Monday. Ujiri does not have a concrete timetable but said that Sullinger could be out for “a couple of months…3 months…..maybe less.”
The surgery will place a screw in Sullinger’s fifth metatarsal. According to the team the surgery is preventative and will hopefully “alleviate symptomatic stress reactions.” The raptors hope to have Sullinger back as soon as possible but for now must focus on their season opener against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
