Russell Westbrook has been an absolute tear this season putting up astronomical numbers. It has seen him put up triple-doubles on a regular basis but he hasn’t put too much personal stock into them. According to the Oklahoman, Westbrook finally revealed when they will matter to him.
“I don’t know,” Westbrook said. “If it gets me a championship, yeah.”
The 27-year-old has repeatedly voiced this season that his sole focus is on winning. Regardless of the nature of the win be it him having a triple-double performance or a forgettable one, he has remained the same. This is the first time that he has truly given his individual production any significant thought.
Westbrook is currently averaging 30.9 points, 10.7 assists, and 10.5 rebounds per game. If he keeps these numbers up through the entire season, he would join Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the one players in NBA history to accomplish that feat. Westbrook already has 16 triple-doubles on the season, which is just seven short of what the entire league has combined.
