At long last, Philadelphia 76ers have finally got to see their prized possession Joel Embiid take the court in the regular season. Embiid was strong in debut scoring 20 points while grabbing seven rebounds in 22 minutes. His strong performance caught the eye of Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Billy Donovan, who issued some huge praise his way.
“He’s hard to guard,” Donovan told Tom Moore of the Bucks County Courier Times. “He’s herky-jerky. He’s got a lot of (Hakeem) Olajuwon to him.”
It’s clear that many around the league are impressed by Embiid’s skill set that has shown through the preseason and the season opener. The comparison’s to one of the greatest players of all-time may be a bit much at this moment, but his footwork has many buzzing about his potential. He certainly has the ability to be a high-impact player and if he can stay healthy there’s no reason to believe he can’t be a franchise-changing player.
The 76ers will have to be patient in the process with Embiid playing limited minutes. Remember, he’s coming off a pair of broken foot injuries that kept him out for first two years. All in all, 76ers fans should be extremely excited for what lies ahead for the franchise and their promising center.
