It has been a couple of years since Rob Van Dam last stepped in the ring for the WWE. Since then, there has been the constant rumors of his return to the company. According to a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Van Dam has left the door open to a comeback.
“I have an open door with WWE as far as wrestling goes. I also have an ongoing merchandise relationship. I hope that the right opportunity presents itself so that I will do another run with WWE. For me, the fans missing me and wanting to see me on TV is very important, but the business end of it also has to be right. I certainly hope that comes together, and it will be something that is right for me and right for WWE and right for the fans. But at this point, I do not have any plans of such. Even when I’m not wrestling, I still appreciate all my fans. I take all the compliments to heart. I don’t think all the other wrestlers hear the same love from the fans that I do—they are extreme about it.”
In the last few months, Van Dam has spoken highly about the possibly of getting back in the ring but did not want to commit to a consistent role. Those days are now behind him as he’s looking for more of a part-time spot. That said, if the WWE were to make him a huge offer, he did state it would be hard to turn that down.
Van Dam is still a fan favorite and his return would be a welcoming sight to many hardcore wrestling fans. At the same time, there doesn’t appear to be much activity on the behalf of the WWE to bring him back at this time. All in all, the possibility still remains if they were to look into it.
